In this lesson, we will learn about exclamatory sentences in Vietnamese.
Exclamatory sentences are expressions used in conversation to directly express emotions and feelings such as joy, sadness, and surprise. We will introduce the following three patterns for exclamatory sentences.
Sentence Structure for Exclamations
Explanation:
① “bao” and “bao nhiêu” mean “how much” or “how many”, and “biết” means “to know”.
“biết bao” becomes an exclamatory phrase meaning “how…!” or “so…!”.
② You can also create exclamatory expressions using “~ quá!”, which was also introduced in the adjective sentences (Lesson 9).
③ Exclamatory sentences always end with an exclamation mark (!).
Example Sentences:
① Bài hát này hay quá !
This song is so good!
② Chị ấy đẹp gái biết bao !
How beautiful she is!
③ Anh ấy ga lăng làm sao !
How gentlemanly he is!
④ Hôm nay, đường đông quá !
