Ms. Linh	Anh John ơi, hôm nay cho em về sớm một chút được không ạ? Mr. John, can I leave a bit early today?
Mr. John	Được chứ. Em bận à? Sure. Are you busy?
Ms. Linh	Thật ra thì em phải đi mua sắm để chuẩn bị tết. Actually, I have to go shopping to prepare for Tet.
Mr. John	Vậy à. Tết người Việt thường chuẩn bị gì? Really? What do Vietnamese people usually prepare for Tet?
Ms. Linh	Người Việt thường chuẩn bị nhiều thứ như mâm ngũ quả gồm 5 loại trái cây, mứt bánh và các loại thức ăn truyền thống như bánh chưng, bánh dày Vietnamese people often prepare many things like the five-fruit tray consisting of 5 types of fruits, candied fruits, and traditional foods like Banh Chung and Banh Day.
Mr. John	Ồ, nhiều thứ nhỉ! Thế người Việt có trang trí nhà cửa không? Oh, that’s a lot! Do Vietnamese people decorate their houses?
Ms. Linh	Có chứ. Mọi người thường trang trí bằng rất nhiều loại hoa như hoa mai, hoa đào, hoa cúc, cây quất,… Yes. People often decorate with many types of flowers such as yellow apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, chrysanthemums, kumquat trees,… Những loại cây ấy được tin là mang đến sự may mắn và hạnh phúc. These plants are believed to bring luck and happiness.
Mr. John	Vậy thì khi tết đến, khắp nơi đều rực rỡ nhỉ. So when Tet comes, everywhere must be colorful.
Ms. Linh	Đúng vậy. Mọi người thường dọn nhà thật sạch sẽ, mặc quần áo đẹp đi thăm hỏi bạn bè và họ hàng hoặc đi chùa, đi lễ hội. That’s right. People often clean their houses very thoroughly, wear beautiful clothes to visit friends and relatives, or go to pagodas and festivals.
Mr. John	Vậy à. Nghe thích nhỉ. Điều này khác với Mỹ. I see. Sounds fun. This is different from the US. Bây giờ ở Mỹ, khi tết đến mọi người thường đi du lịch nước ngoài hoặc ở nhà nghỉ ngơi. In the US now, when New Year comes, people often travel abroad or rest at home. Nên vào dịp tết, đường phố Mỹ thường rất vắng vẻ và yên ắng. So during the holiday, streets in the US are often very empty and quiet.
Ms. Linh	Thế à. Ở Việt Nam thì tết là lúc nhộn nhịp nhất trong năm. Really? In Vietnam, Tet is the most bustling time of the year. Năm nay là năm đầu tiên anh John đón tết ở Việt Nam nhỉ? This is the first year you celebrate Tet in Vietnam, right Mr. John?
Mr. John	Đúng rồi. Anh háo hức quá. That’s right. I’m so excited. Chắc chắn sẽ là trải nghiệm thú vị. It will surely be an interesting experience.
